Desk community guidelines
Last updated: 20 October 2026
What Desk is for
Desk is a quiet place to share what you're working on and to notice what your Neighbors are up to. People show up with in-progress work, not performances. These guidelines keep it kind, safe and calm. They sit alongside our Terms and Privacy Policy.
Be a good neighbor
- Be respectful. Disagree without attacking. Give notes that help.
- Respect people's space. If someone doesn't reply, blocks you or hides your Desk, leave them alone.
- Share your own work and your own photos. Credit other people's work.
- Use your real name and an honest profile. Don't pretend to be someone else.
What isn't allowed
We remove content and may suspend accounts for:
- Harassment and abuse. Threats, bullying, stalking, repeated unwanted contact (including Desk Mail and sticky notes), and encouraging others to harass.
- Hate. Attacks on people for race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or serious illness.
- Sexual content. Nudity and sexually explicit images or text; intimate or sexual images of anyone shared without their consent, including images made or altered with AI ("deepfakes"); and sexual content involving anyone under 18 in any form.
- Child safety. Any content that sexualizes, exploits or endangers children, including attempts to groom or contact minors for sexual purposes. We report child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities. See our child safety standards.
- Violence and self-harm. Graphic violence, credible threats, or content that encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders. If you or someone you know is in danger, contact your local emergency services.
- Illegal activity. Selling or promoting illegal goods or services, fraud, scams, or content that breaks the law.
- Impersonation and deception. Fake accounts, pretending to be someone you aren't, misleading profiles and coordinated fake activity.
- Privacy violations. Posting someone's private information (address, phone, ID, private messages, private photos) without their consent.
- Spam and misuse. Unsolicited promotion, repeated or automated messages, scraping, attempts to bypass blocks, suspensions or technical limits, and malware.
- Explicit language in captions, notes, bios, usernames or messages. Desk uses a word filter and may refuse text it detects.
Your photos and what others can see
Photos on Desk are served from public web addresses. Only post photos you're comfortable with others seeing. Get consent before posting a photo of another person, and never post images of minors in a way that identifies or exposes them without a parent or guardian's consent.
Control who sees what
- Choose an audience for each Drop and session: Everyone, Mutual neighbors or Only me.
- Choose who can send you notes and gestures in Settings.
- Block a person to stop them seeing or contacting you. Hide a Desk to remove it from your feed.
Reporting
Open the more menu on a Drop, profile or session and choose Report. Tell us what happened. Reports go to Desk's administrators only, and the person you report isn't told who reported them.
You can also email hello@visitdesk.app about anything the Report button can't cover. For emergencies, contact your local emergency services first. To report child sexual abuse or exploitation, email hello@visitdesk.app with the subject "Child safety".
What happens when something breaks these guidelines
Depending on severity and history, we may:
- remove the content, refuse a post or hide it;
- warn you;
- limit features;
- suspend your account (a suspended account shows a notice with the reason and can't post);
- end your account for severe or repeated violations;
- report illegal activity, or content that endangers a child, to the authorities.
We don't tolerate retaliation against people who report. If you think we made a mistake, email hello@visitdesk.app with your username and your reason.
Child safety
Desk is for people aged 18 and over. Our child safety standards say how we prevent, find and act on child sexual abuse and exploitation, and how to reach us.
Changes
We may update these guidelines. We'll tell you in the app about significant changes.
